As a Service Writer, your primary responsibility is to provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers at the dealership or mechanic, listening to their concerns, and addressing inquiries as necessary. Additionally, you will write reports of a vehicle's condition and deliver information to a professional mechanic or technician.
Key duties include welcoming customers, inquiring about the reason for their visit, taking detailed notes on their vehicle's issues, entering their personal information into the dealership database, providing forms for customers to sign, and drawing up work orders with specific details. You will also act as a liaison between the customer and vehicle technician, provide cost estimates, and assist service advisors in analyzing the nature of vehicle issues.
As part of your responsibilities, you will explain to customers the nature of work completed by the mechanic, answer their questions regarding vehicle condition, wait time, and cost, and translate automotive jargon into layman's terms for explanatory purposes. Other duties include printing out billing statements, explaining billing details to customers, processing customer payments, maintaining logs of vehicle work completed, answering service area phones, scheduling appointments, and driving vehicles from the garage to the customer parking lot when service is completed.
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate strong interpersonal and customer service skills, maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, possess knowledge of the Powersports industry and various repair options, exhibit patience, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. You should also have the ability to read and interpret automotive billing statements and work orders, communicate clearly and effectively, understand and interpret vehicle terminology, manage time efficiently, exhibit excellent telephone etiquette, and have basic computer skills.
